River Construct
The Point Street Bridge in Providence, Rhode Island is a pedestrian bottleneck. Heavily trafficked, it is a prime site for architectural intervention. Beneath the bridge is a ruined pier long abandoned upon which the intervention is supported.
The design emerged from a phenomenological method. Observations of swirling of ink drops in water were translated into a logic of making. Entropy breaks down the fibers of ink as the project breaks down upon the ruined pier.
Between Frames
The bridge sits above a ruined pier which is reinforced and used as the first frame of support. The second frame is that of the bridge itself.
Floor plates are supported by the piers beneath. On the southern half they are arranged to accommodate a crowd around the boxing ring. The northern half is for the boxers to contemplate and prepare. Sun shades are strung between the frame of the bridge and the frame of the piers.
